When outfitting your kitchen with cooking tools and bakeware, there are some choices that you will have to make. One of the hottest trends in bakeware and cooking tools is silicone. The colorful bakeware designs allows you to purchase bakeware that is lightweight, brightly colored and has a number of benefits that makes it a great choice in any kitchen.
This kind of bakeware is made from stone fired at very high temperatures. Though stone bakeware takes a little longer than other material to heat up initially, it distributes heat evenly, retains heat and keeps food warm long after it is cooked. Most stone bakeware surfaces must be sprayed or rubbed with oil before using for the first time. Care: Do not use soap to clean. Scrape off excess food and wash with warm water.
One of the concerns that some people had about silicone bakeware is their safety. The materials used to make the nonstick surface made some folks wonder about how these materials might affect their health. The good news is that silicone bakeware is perfectly safe to cook all of your baked goods without causing any harm to your health.
Non-stick bakeware consists of steel or aluminum with a non-stick coating, which allows food to easily peel off from the surface of the bakeware. So this type of bakeware works particularly for items such as muffins and layered cakes. Once again, the non-stick coating gives the bakeware a darker surface, which absorbs heat quickly, so make sure the food is not overly browned or dried out. Care: Wash in hot soapy water and for stuck on food, use warm water to loosen. Do not use metal utensils or knives on the bakeware surface.
If you select a glass bakeware pan or a dark, non-stick pan, reduce the oven temperature by at least 25 degree F.If the substitute pan causes the depth of the ingredients to be thinner, reduce cooking time by 15 minutes. If the depth is thicker, increase cooking time by 15 minutes. Whenever you select a substitute pan, keep in mind that you need to allow room for certain foods to expand as they cook.
If you want to measure the pan, do it from the inside edge to the other inside edge so that you will not include the thickness of the pans in the measurement. Fill the pan with water and pour it to a measuring cup. In that way, you will know what the volume of the pan is. It is advised that when you use a bakeware or pan made of glass or a pan with non-stick surface, you should decrease the temperature of the oven by 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Lastly, it is important that you should allocate some space in the pans or the bakeware as some food still expand after they have been cooked.
Pyrex is the original glass Bakeware. You can see through the dishes to see what you are cooking. It is no longer just available in clear glass, though, you can purchase different shades of Pyrex to coordinate with your kitchen. That way you can take the dishes out of the oven and put them right on the table, giving it even more appeal. Unfortunately, glass can chip, crack and break, so if you drop Pyrex or other glass dish, it is probably a goner.
